Has your alarm clock ever stopped working right before an important appointment? Do you find it unnecessary to spend money on replacing a small battery? This article explains step by step how to reuse dead batteries and give them new life economically and safely.
Problem with common batteries
Button batteries, like those used by many alarm clocks, are not designed to be recharged and when they run out, we usually throw them away. However, many times they can still be used through a simple home process.
Initial diagnosis
Before reusing a battery, it is crucial to measure its voltage:
- Use a multimeter to check if the battery is completely discharged.
- If it is corroded or deformed, do not try to reuse it due to the risk of fire.
Mold Preparation
The video shows an ingenious solution:
- A plastic syringe is used as an adapter mold for the battery to fit into the watch compartment.
- The syringe is cut to battery size and sanded to smooth the edges.
Construction of the new support
- The metal terminal of the old battery is used to make contact with the new one.
- Using a soldering iron, a wire is attached to the metal terminal and attached to the syringe tube with hot silicone.
- A screw is used as the negative terminal, to which the other end of the cable is also attached.
